Here are the pictures I promised you of the floating islands on Lake Titicaca. Supposedly, indigenous Aymara communities fled attacks by other indigenous groups on the mainland and built islands out of reed grass (Genus Juncus). People still live on the islands but the islands closest to Puno have become a huge tourist attraction. The island we went to was a few hours from Puno and wasn't as touristy. One of the natives gave a small presentation about how they make the island, reed boats and how the totora reed is used for other purposes such as cleansing teeth.

We ate some of the tip of the totora reed and it tasted just like Chicken! Just kidding...it tasted more like Jikama. Here are some pictures of the islands and a picture of a woman starting a cooking fire.
